First and formost it is important to note that this ride is entirely on private property belonging to the railroad. Technically this is a off-limits ride. However, it is a very popular trail and you will see a number of other cyclists and hikers along the path. It is long abandoned and not patroled by the railroad or anyone else for that matter. Occasionally you will see military helicopters making their way down the gorge as it is part of the overland training route for NAS North Island's helicopter squadrons. The highlight of this ride is the tunnels and trestles that you will encounter along the ride. It is truly a unique riding experience. This ride is not a difficult ride from a technical point of view but it is very dangerous due to the conditions. The trestles are not maintained and have holes in them in areas. There are some suydden drop offs and lots of cactus. Some of the tunnels have collapsed and there is always the danger of additional rock falls. You should bring lights with you as it will be pitch black in some of the tunnels. Whatever you do, DO NOT ride this ride alone.
