Trails Daley Ranch is a new park (Established April 1997), so not all of the trails are completely marked. Make sure you are on a real trail at all times. There are quite a few short singletrack trails that are not marked, but are well traveled. If you wander into a place you are not supposed to be, leave as quickly as possible. Daley Ranch has some of the best trails in San Diego County. It has great views, burning climbs, great downhills, forested trails, and wide open meadows. Chapparral Loop Trail This is the best way to ride into the park. The trail is a fairly gentle climb most of the way with good views and some singletrack available. The trail runs past two of the ponds in the park before dropping down into Jack Creek Meadow about 1/4 mile from the ranch house. Jack Creek Meadow This trail is an easy flat loop that runs the length of Jack Creek Meadow. There is one spot where the trail crosses Jack Creek, but it mostly parallels it. On the return loop, there is a series of 6 waterbars that make excellent jumps. Central Valley Loop Trail The Central Valley Loop Trail leads to the best trails in the park. You have to earn your way up one of two hard climbs, either from near the ranch house, or the end of Jack Creek Meadow. The trail then runs along the hillsides towards the Englemann Oak Loop. Englemann Oak Loop Trail This trail consists of single and dual track running through oak groves. It is a wonderful ride and some of the prettiest in San Diego County. If you take the trail counter-clockwise it is mainly a long downhill singletrack. The alternate route listed on the park map is the preferred route. You will have to pay for you fun with a difficult climb back out to the Central Valley trail. But a little walking is worth it for the fun. Boulder Loop Trail We have yet to try this route past the point where the Central Valley route takes off to the north, but we have been told there are some great views from the boulders it gets its name from. Ranch House Loop Trail This trail consists of the road to the ranch house and a loop back to the parking lot by trail. It is the way into the park for beginning cyclists, and the way out for tired riders. |
