Lake Hodges is located on the border between Rancho Bernardo and Escondido. Interstate 15 crosses the eastern edge of the lake. To reach the southern rides, take I-15 to the West Bernardo Drive. Take West Bernardo Dr. west to the first parking lot on the right. The trail leave from this parking lot. There are two entrances to the North Shore Trail. Both start by taking I-15 to Via Rancho Parkway. To get to the eastern entrance take Via Rancho Parkway East to the first stop light. Take a right on this road and follow it to the parking lot at the end. A concrete trail leaves the parking lot and takes you to the other side of the freeway were the dirt begins. To get to the Del Dios Community Park entrance, take Via Rancho Parkway approximately 3 miles west to Lake Dr. (Be careful the sign is small). Take a left on Lake and follow it about 1 mile. The park is on the left. The gate is often closed, even though the park is open.
