Trails

Trails in Mission Trails Regional Park are well marked, as are the off-limits areas. The area of the park has been heavily damaged by prior users before it became a park. Please obey the trail closed signs that are usually in place to try to repair this past damage.

This is one of the park's easier trails most of the area is flat grasslands that are great for families or beginning riders. These trails are also the first part of trails to the more difficult Fortuna and Upper Oak Canyon Trails.

Upper Oak Canyon

Oak Canyon is probably one of the nicest areas in San Diego, especially in early spring when the ceanothus is in bloom. The lower part of the trail is closed to cyclists. The trail is all single track until north of the Hwy. 52 bridge.

Fortuna Mountain

Topo Map Elevation Map

This is the most challenging trail in the park. All but the most accomplished riders will have to hike some part of The Alley or the southern climb up Fortuna Mountain. If you make in to the top, the view of the entire San Diego area will make it worth your while.

West Fortuna

Topo Map

West Fortuna is the park's mountain biking playground. The park management tries to promote biking in this area of the park, as it is less popular with hikers. West Fortuna has a number of singletrack areas, as well as a few challenging climbs.

Visitor Center/Father Serra Trail

Topo Map Elevation Map

These trails are very easy paths for the beginning rider and hikers. Father Serra Trail is the paved multi-use trail that runs down the center of the gorge. Riders from the more challenging parts of the park will probably use Father Serra Trail to make a loop ride.
